Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) - The 16th Party Congress of central Thua Thien-Hue
province (2020-2025 tenure) opened on October 22, bringing together 350 delegates
representing Party members across the locality.
The Congress
held a minute’s silence in tribute to officers, soldiers, and residents killed
by floods and landslides in Thua Thien-Hue and other central provinces in
recent days.
Addressing the
Congress, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong
Thi Phong, on behalf of the Party, the State, and the legislature, extended her
deepest sympathies over the losses caused by the natural disasters in the
region.
She lauded Thua
Thien-Hue’s prompt rescue efforts, which helped mitigate the losses.
The official highlighted
the achievements the locality has posted over the last five years, with annual growth
averaging 6.5 percent and the economic structure tilting towards services and
industry.
Tourism has
become an economic spearhead and the maritime economy has gradually become a
development engine of the locality, she continued.
Phong urged Thua
Thien-Hue to successfully materialise Resolution No 54 of the Politburo and
Resolution No 83 of the Government regarding the building and development of
the province by 2030 with a vision to 2045.
The province
needs to mobilise all resources to turn itself into a centrally-run city by
2025 and a national and regional centre of culture, tourism, extensive healthcare,
education-training, and science-technology.
Local cultural
potential should be further optimised, she said, and asked the province to
develop agriculture towards high-technology and improve the quality of
new-style rural area building and sustainable poverty reduction.
Regarding Party
building, she said the task must be carried out synchronously and firmly in
terms of politics, ideology, organisation, and personnel.
It was reported
at the Congress that annual per capita income in Thua Thien-Hue is expected to
stand at 2,169 USD this year, ranking its third in the central coastal region.
Its total social
investment in the 2016-2020 period reached some 105.1 trillion VND, with an
annual growth rate of 11 percent.
The service
sector made up 48 percent of the province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
Over the last five years, it has attracted 63 service and tourism projects
worth 76.7 trillion VND and 149 industrial projects with total registered
capital of around 103 trillion VND.
At the Congress,
slated to wrap up on October 22, delegates also raised funds in support of
flood victims./.
